Library Mission

We, the staff of Ohio Dominican University Library, promote Information Literacy and inspire lifelong learning by providing personalized service and access to resources while addressing the research needs of the university community. (Refer to Library Mission, Vision, & Values for more information.)

Reference & Research Services Mission

ODU Library reference librarians provide exceptional reference & research services to the ODU community & help equip students to become lifelong learners by helping them conduct effective and increasingly independent research.

The Reference Services Team

ODU Library reference staff consists exclusively of librarians, each of whom has either a Masters in Library Science (MLS or MSLS) or Masters in Library and Information Science (MLIS).

Our Goals

Outcomes:

  • Librarians will create, review, & maintain current, high quality research & resource guides that provide relevant scholarly & professional resources in disciplines represented in the ODU curriculum & in higher education
  • Librarians will proactively reach out to the ODU community with relevant news of new resources & services 
  • Librarians will provide quality reference services & research consultations to the ODU community

Outcomes:

  • Librarians will provide effective information literacy instruction during reference transactions
  • Librarians will create, review, & maintain relevant guides, videos, & tutorials on information sources & information ethics
  • Librarians will proactively identify information needs in the ODU Community and offer helpful solutions to meet those needs
  • Students who do in-depth research consultations will improve their search skills to locate needed information and resources
  • Students who do in-depth research consultations will be able to identify new resources they could use in the future

Outcomes:

  • Librarians will provide excellent reference & research services to faculty & staff
  • Librarians will provide informative one-on-one consultations with faculty and staff on information resources & research strategies
  • Librarians will create, review, & maintain faculty- & staff-focused information resource portals
  • Librarians will proactively reach out to new faculty & staff to offer orientation to information resources and library services

Our vision is to partner with faculty and staff to provide quality reference services to as many students as possible and to help faculty, staff, and administration meet their information needs as they pertain to their professional growth and service to the university.
