Key Library Databases & Tips

Take a look in these databases!
Our First Tip: Each database covers different journals, so you will need to look potentially at several databases to get a good coverage of the person/topic you wish to focus on in an annotated bibliography.. Best 1st database to try: Education Research Complete.

Be sure to look at the rest of our Strategies & Tips too--See the tab above!

Database Tutorial:

Some quick, powerful ways to focus on what you need in the databases:

  • You can limit your search to a language, for example, English
  • You can limit to just academic/scholarly journals
  • You can limit to just articles in those journals (e.g., no book reviews)
  • You can limit to a specific date range (e.g., 2009-2019)

Often a great way to focus on articles that focus on a person or topic (such as a particular language or aspect of a language) is to use the database's Subjects:

Look to the left of your results for a list of Subjects. Select your language.

Search for articles on a language in a database

Next to your results under the Subjects listed, you might see japanese or japanese language as an option, for example.

Can't get the full text of an article through one of our databases?

If you can't find full text using the links for "HTML Full Text," "PDF Full Text," or "Find It via Full Fext Finder," you may be able to request a copy via Interlibrary Loan

Where can you identify potential articles outside of the databases?

Look for citations of articles listed in bibliographies and Works Cited in the books and articles you find.
