We recommend 3 options:
(1) Turn to Research 101, our online interactive tutorial with tips & guides, which will show you how to get started and how to find books, ebooks, and articles through the library's catalogs & databases.
(2) Start your research with our Research Guides. Choose your Research Guide by subject (e.g., British Literature) or course (e.g., ENG110). Our Research Guides will give you our top recommended databases, links to other essential resources, tips on how to use them, & resources for citing your sources & getting personal assistance.
(3) If you're still not sure where to start, start with one or two of our frequently used databases that cover almost any topic, available in our General Interest Research Guide.
And remember--you're not alone. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask a librarian for assistance.
Although the library building is closed, reference librarians are available online to help you with your research questions:

Since the building in which the library is located, Spangler Learning Center, is closed, and all OhioLINK member libraries have suspended lending, all physical items are not available at this time. Ebooks are still an option, however, and we encourage you to use the Library Catalog and OhioLINK Catalog
We recommend several alternative options:
See Question #13 in this FAQ for more help with ebooks.
Right now, while we are still closed, we would prefer that you do not come on to campus to return items.
However, if you do need to return your library items, you can take the books to the outer lobby of the library building and put them in the book drop slot available there. Do NOT attempt to return your library items to the parking lot drop box; it will remain locked until we return to campus to avoid weather-related damage to items.
ODU Library will still be able to process Interlibrary Loan requests for articles if needed. We cannot, however, request books at this time.
Since the campus buildings are closed, no fines payments will be accepted at this time. You will not be charged late fees during this closure time. Please ignore any automated emails to the contrary.
Graduating seniors, please watch your ODU email as the semester draws to a close for a message concerning any outstanding library items and/or fines.
Unfortunately, no, because the building is closed until August 3. We will provide an update as soon as possible.
Unfortunately, no, because the building is closed indefinitely. We will provide an update as soon as possible.
OhioLINK has suspended all lending of any physical items until procedures can be put in place to handle items safely. Therefore, no OhioINK items can be requested at this time. A few member libraries of OhioLINK may still be open, but many university libraries are closed. If interested in using another OhioLINK member library on site (no check-outs), please call ahead first to see whether they are open.
OhioLINK is expected to reopen its services in late July/early August. Check back for more information.as we near this time.
Unfortunately, no, since the building will be closed until August 3. Please contact your professor for further information.
We also have ebook collections available from our databases.
Our ebooks function just like websites and PDFs--no devices needed to read them. To open an ebook, when prompted, all you will need to do is log in with your last name and last 7 digits of your ODU ID number. In a few cases, you first may need to identify yourself as affiliated with Ohio Dominican University by selecting our univresity from a drop-down menu.
Spangler Learning Center will reopen on August 3.
Please ask a librarian for assistance.
